Highly Anticipated: Apple Unveils Upgraded Mac Mini with M4 Pro Chip and Thunderbolt 5 Support

Apple has introduced the second M4 Mac this week, with the highly anticipated upgraded Mac Mini. This marks the first major revision for the Mac Mini in almost 15 years, featuring the M4 Pro chip and support for Thunderbolt 5.

Pre-orders are now open for two new Mac Mini variants, starting at $599 for the M4 model and $1,399 for the M4 Pro variant. Students can avail of a $100 discount on each model. Shipments are set to begin on November 8.

The base model includes the M4 chip, offering enhanced performance with 10 cores and a 16-core neural engine. This model also comes with Apple Intelligence, available on any Mac or iPad with an M-series chip, providing advanced AI capabilities for various tasks.

The Mac Mini now starts with 16 GB of unified RAM, with the M4 model configurable up to 32 GB and the M4 Pro supporting up to 64 GB. Storage options range from 256 GB to 2 TB for the base model and from 512 GB to 8 TB for the M4 Pro version.

For the M4 Pro variant, improvements include 10 performance cores, a GPU with 20 cores supporting ray tracing, and an increased memory bandwidth. This results in significant performance boosts for tasks like audio effects and rendering.

Wired connectivity has also been upgraded, with both models featuring USB-C 3.0 ports, an audio jack, and Thunderbolt 4 or 5 ports. Apple is selling a one-meter Thunderbolt 5 cable for $69, with other options available from third-party vendors like OWC.
