GOP lawmakers demand USCIS fire employee who defended illegal immigration on social media

A group of Republican lawmakers, led by Rep. Nancy Mace, is calling for the termination of a US Citizenship and Immigration Services employee who posted videos and content on social media praising illegal immigrants.

Mace (R-SC) and three other Republican representatives have accused Wilson Osorio, an associate counsel at USCIS, of encouraging illegal immigrants to disregard US laws.

“Wilson Osorio has used YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram to promote the illegal entry of aliens from Latin America into the United States, putting both American citizens and those seeking to enter the country illegally at risk,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to USCIS director Ur Jaddou.

A report from conservative research firm American Accountability Foundation highlighted several instances where Osorio’s social media posts supported migrants. Fox News initially reported on AAF’s findings.

Osorio’s pro-immigrant social media posts began in July but have since been made private.

One of Osorio’s TikTok posts stated, “Undocumented immigrants play an important role in US infrastructure,” citing a family from El Salvador who allegedly paid taxes despite their immigration status.

Another post on Instagram by Osorio highlighted the success story of a Honduran immigrant who entered the US illegally and now owns a million-dollar restaurant.

Joining Mace in the call for Osorio’s termination are Reps. Andy Harris, Ralph Norman, and Jeff Duncan.

The lawmakers emphasized that Osorio’s actions were done while he was receiving a taxpayer-funded salary from USCIS, the agency responsible for overseeing legal immigration.

They pointed out the dangers of illegal immigration, mentioning encounters with individuals on the terrorist watchlist and the threats criminal aliens pose to American citizens.

Prior to his role at USCIS, Osorio worked as an immigration counsel for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin.

The lawmakers condemned the encouragement of illegal immigration, stating that it puts individuals at risk of exploitation by criminal organizations during the journey from Latin America to the US.

The Department of Homeland Security and USCIS were contacted for comment on the issue.

American Accountability Foundation released its findings on Osorio along with a website listing “radical leftist” government officials who may still be in positions from the Biden-Harris administration.

A spokesperson from DHS criticized AAF’s list, denouncing any attempts to harass government officials in the current environment of heightened threats.
