Peter Gallagher is 'grateful' Mischa Barton is 'still alive' 

Peter Gallagher expressed his gratitude that Mischa Barton is still alive despite the challenges she faced due to early fame.

In an interview with The Independent, the 69-year-old actor, known for his role in “The O.C.,” discussed Barton’s struggles with fame at a young age, emphasizing how dangerous it can be. Barton, who was cast as Marissa Cooper in the popular teen drama at just 16 years old, quickly rose to A-list status. However, she later faced difficulties, including a DUI arrest in 2007 and a psychiatric hold in 2009.

Gallagher shared his protective feelings towards Barton, stating, “First fame is toxic. First fame can kill you.” He added, “She was 16 years old when she started working with us, so just the fact that she’s still alive, I’m just so grateful.”

Barton has been open about her struggles, comparing her breakdown in 2009 to the character in “Girl, Interrupted.” She clarified that she was never suicidal but was overworked and depressed.
