Walgreens pharmacist receives surprise $6,000 gift from boy, 11, and devoted customers before store closes
A beloved Walgreens employee known as “Pharmacist Bob” was surprised with a generous $6,000 gift on Saturday from an 11-year-old boy and loyal customers as his Massachusetts store prepares to close.
Bob Hesselberg, who has been a fixture behind the pharmacy counter at the Walgreens on Boston Post Road in Weston for over 30 years, was given a heartwarming farewell before he is transferred to another Walgreens location in Waltham next month, as reported by CBS Boston.
Eleven-year-old Aarav Khanna helped organize a small celebration for the pharmacist, whom he had gotten to know because his school bus would drop him off across the street from the local Walgreens.
“I’ve witnessed the kindness and dedication he puts into his work,” Khanna shared with the station.
Khanna managed to raise around $6,000 to present to Hesselberg as a gesture of gratitude. Additionally, a young girl gave the pharmacist a handmade card.
“It’s truly humbling. I’m in disbelief. It’s incredible,” veteran pharmacist Hesselberg expressed to the station.
“I’m not ready to retire, even at 75. I’m not prepared for it.”
Local resident Carol Ott, who attended the celebration, praised Hesselberg for his welcoming demeanor towards customers.
