Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to launch later this week, and preloads for one of the most anticipated games of the year are now available. However, it has been revealed that there is no Black Ops 6 platinum trophy on PlayStation 5.

While there are 44 trophies for Black Ops 6 on PS5, the highest tier is a handful of gold trophies instead of the usual platinum trophy that players would expect for a new game. Surprisingly, there is a platinum trophy for the game on PS4, according to Exophase.

Players can access Black Ops 6 preloads through the unified Call of Duty game app, COD HQ, which was launched alongside Modern Warfare 2 in 2022. This app brings together MW2, MW3, Black Ops 6, and Warzone, helping to manage game install sizes by sharing common assets.

As a result, the trophy lists for MW2, MW3, and Black Ops 6 are combined. Among the three games, only Modern Warfare 2 features a platinum trophy, with MW3 and Black Ops 6 missing out on this achievement.

While some may speculate that the absence of a platinum trophy for Black Ops 6 on PS5 is a deliberate move by Microsoft (the new owners of Activision Blizzard) to frustrate PlayStation gamers, it is more likely due to the game being presented as an expansion to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 within Sony’s system. This is similar to Destiny 2, which also only has one platinum trophy despite multiple expansions. However, this does not explain why Black Ops 6 has a platinum trophy on PS4.

Despite the lack of a platinum trophy, millions of players are still eagerly anticipating the game. The trophy list for Black Ops 6 includes challenges such as completing the campaign on Veteran difficulty, mission-specific objectives, and typical multiplayer achievements leading up to achieving Prestige for the first time.

One peculiar task in the trophy list is eating a fish in Zombies mode, adding a bit of mystery to the gameplay experience.

Black Ops 6 stays true to the series’ signature elements, featuring double-crossing subterfuge and intense action in the campaign set in the 1990s post-Cold War era. With George HW Bush as President, the game promises a thrilling narrative filled with deception and intrigue. This excitement is expected to carry over to the multiplayer mode and the popular zombies mode.
