Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – Mogryph Mole boss guide
Princess Zelda finds herself in the depths of the Stilled World desert in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, facing off against the formidable giant flying mole, Mogryph. Despite his imposing size, powerful attacks, and peculiar wings, there’s a hint of cuteness to him – especially with those adorable goggles!
However, as the challenging battle progresses, even the most charming enemy can test your patience. Unlike other adversaries in Echoes of Wisdom, many bosses require a specific strategy to defeat, diverging from the more experimental approach of the rest of the adventure.
Here’s what you need to know!
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Mogryph Mole boss fight
During the initial phase of the encounter with Mogryph, he will burrow through the sandy terrain beneath you, emerging to attack unpredictably.
The Pathblade Echoes prove to be swift enough to catch him as he surfaces for air, serving as obstacles while he navigates the arena.
After several cycles, Mogryph will soar out of the sand and charge towards you. To evade his attack, you must utilize Zelda’s spin maneuver to escape. When he collides with the wall and buries his head in the sand, it’s your opportunity to transform into Swordfighter form and unleash a flurry of strikes for maximum damage.
This action triggers the second phase of the battle, causing the arena to sink and reveal quicksand below. If you acquired the Gerudo sandals from Gerudo Town’s shop, you can traverse the quicksand; otherwise, you must strategically use the small platforms to your advantage.
Ground-based Echoes are ineffective in this segment as they sink into the quicksand. Similarly, flying Echoes are not ideal since the delay before their attacks gives the mole an opportunity to escape.
It’s easy to feel disheartened at this stage and believe the fight is unwinnable. However, once you grasp the strategy, it becomes surprisingly straightforward.
The key to defeating Mogryph lies in the bow and arrow obtained from Shadow Link earlier in the dungeon!
Whenever Mogryph is visible, you can hold ZL while in Swordfighter form to target the flying mole and then press X to fire arrows in his direction. This method allows you to consistently deal damage that Echoes struggle to achieve in this scenario.
Once your arrow supply is depleted, you must switch to a defensive stance, evading Mogryph’s assaults until the arena is littered with sand piles. Equip your Tornado Echo to clear the sand and uncover energy power-ups to bolster your offensive capabilities.
If you can fire arrows rapidly enough, the battle will conclude swiftly, bridging the gap and rewarding you with a full heart for your efforts.
