Remedy unveil wacky co-op shooter FBC: Firebreak, set in the Control universe

Remedy, the developers of Alan Wake, have revealed their first multiplayer game, a three-person co-op shooter set in the world of Control called FBC: Firebreak. The game is part of the Remedy Connected Universe and was previously known as Condor. The team recommends shortening the name to Firebreak for convenience. While some may argue that Remedy worked on Smilegate’s CrossfireX, it was only for the single-player aspects.

Firebreak puts players in the role of first responders at the Federal Bureau of Control, tasked with stopping paranormal threats in the Oldest House. Players can use Altered World objects with unique abilities to combat these otherworldly menaces.

The game will receive post-release content updates but aims to provide a pick-up-and-play experience without the complexities of a game-as-a-service model. The narrative of Firebreak takes place after the events of Control, offering a blend of absurdity and horror.

Game director Mike Kayatta assures that Firebreak will be a standalone experience, focusing on gameplay over story and multiplayer elements. The game will expand on the world of Control while providing a fresh perspective.

Despite concerns about live-service games, Firebreak’s setting in the Oldest House holds promise for exciting gameplay opportunities without becoming a content factory.
