The Super Mario Bros. Movie Toad actor Keegan-Michael Key promises the sequel will feature some "deep cuts", so here's hoping for Stanley the Bugman

We still have limited information about the upcoming sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but the actor voicing Toad has hinted at some exciting surprises.

Although the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel has been in development for some time, it may still be a while before we see any significant updates. However, Keegan-Michael Key, who portrayed Toad in the first film, shared some intriguing details during an interview with Men’s Journal. “One thing I can reveal about the second movie is that it expands on the universe and introduces captivating lore within the Mario world,” Key mentioned. “Audiences can expect to discover some amazing Easter eggs, making the sequel a thrilling experience so far.”

Fans of the original film will likely appreciate the abundance of Easter eggs it contained, and the promise of even more in the sequel is sure to excite them. Key also hinted at the introduction of new characters in the upcoming film, saying, “The creative team has expanded the universe in which these characters exist, and we will encounter both familiar faces and some lesser-known characters that will add depth to the story.”

This begs the question of who these lesser-known characters might be – could it be Prince Haru from the ’80s Mario anime, Mushbert from Mario Party Advance, or perhaps Stanley the Bugman from Donkey Kong 3? And let’s not forget the anticipation of Danny DeVito potentially portraying Wario (fans, start your petitions now).
