SpaceX to top the Super Heavy catch with another astonishing feat
SpaceX made history on Sunday by using robotic arms to catch the Super Heavy booster after deploying the Starship spacecraft in its fifth test flight.
Looking ahead, SpaceX is aiming to catch both the booster and the spacecraft to create a fully reusable spaceflight system.
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, confirmed plans to catch the spacecraft as well in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter).
Before attempting to catch the Starship, SpaceX will conduct more test flights where the Super Heavy is caught and the Starship lands in the ocean.
Catching the Starship at the launch site will enable quicker turnaround times between launches, with the spacecraft needing only checks, refurbishment, and refueling before the next flight.
SpaceX is also working on perfecting the landing system for the Starship, which will involve vertical landings on other celestial bodies like the moon and potentially Mars.
The company has already achieved successful Earth-based vertical landings in previous tests.
Exciting developments are underway as SpaceX engineers focus on advancing the Starship for future missions.
NASA plans to utilize SpaceX’s spacecraft for the Artemis III mission, aiming to land astronauts on the moon by 2026.
