Oregon player ejected for spitting on Ohio State foe in Big Ten showdown
Spitting is not allowed in college football, but Oregon wide receiver Traeshon Holden seemed to have missed the memo.
Holden was ejected during the second quarter of the game between No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Ohio State for spitting on Buckeyes cornerback Davison Igbinosun after a play near the goal line.
NBC cameras captured the moment Holden spat at Igbinosun in front of an official, resulting in an immediate ejection as Igbinosun wiped the slobber from his face mask.
Holden, visibly upset, threw his helmet and was seen on his knees in frustration as he made his way to the locker room.
Holden’s ejection was a significant loss for Oregon as he was one of the team’s top receivers, with 19 catches for 274 yards in the first five games of the season.
Despite Holden’s absence, Oregon managed to maintain a lead of 22-21 against Ohio State at halftime.
This incident wasn’t the first of its kind this season in college football. Earlier, North Carolina State’s Anthony Belton was ejected for spitting on Clemson’s Tre Williams during a game on September 21, 2024, following a heated altercation on the field.
