NYT Mini Crossword today: puzzle answers for Friday, August 23

The New York Times has announced the upcoming addition to its Games collection, Digits, following the success of Wordle. This new game focuses on math, challenging players to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. The beta version of Digits is now available to play for free online.
In Digits, players are tasked with matching a target number using six given numbers. They can use addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division to get as close to the target as possible. Not all numbers need to be used, making this game a test of math skills as players combine numbers to form the right equations and reach the target number.

Players will receive a five-star rating for matching the target number exactly, a three-star rating for getting within 10 of the target, and a one-star rating for getting within 25 of the target number. The game currently offers five puzzles with progressively larger numbers. I personally found today’s puzzle to be a fun number-based game that will appeal to those who enjoy puzzle games like Threes, Wordle, and Spelling Bee from The New York Times.

In an article introducing Digits and discussing the development process of The New York Times Games team, The Times mentions that the free beta will be used to address any bugs and determine whether the game should move into a more active development phase. Players are encouraged to try out Digits now, as The New York Times may decide to discontinue the project if it does not receive the desired response.
You can play the beta version of Digits for free on The New York Times Games’ website.
