This record-breaking drone show was controlled by one laptop
Shenzhen, a Chinese city, recently set a new world record for the most number of drones in a drone show. The city first used 7,598 drones in a show at the start of September, surpassing the old record by several thousand. Just a few days ago, another show in Shenzhen Bay Park utilized a total of 10,197 drones, setting two Guinness World Records in the process. The drones created dazzling images and animations in the night sky, controlled by software on a laptop on the ground.
The latest drone show was a part of the celebrations leading up to China’s National Day on October 1. Advancements in drone technology and software have made drone shows more popular, as they are seen as environmentally friendly and cost-efficient alternatives to fireworks displays. Drones produce no smoke or pollutants and are quieter, making them more enjoyable for audiences and less disruptive to communities and wildlife. While there is a risk of malfunctioning drones, holding the display away from crowds can mitigate any potential harm.
