The India-China relationship is crucial for the future of Asia and will have a significant impact on the entire world, according to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He highlighted that the “parallel rises” of India and China pose a unique challenge in today’s global politics.

Speaking at an event titled ‘India, Asia and the World’ in New York, Mr. Jaishankar emphasized the disturbed nature of the current relationship between the two countries.

He also mentioned his upcoming address at the U.N. General Assembly and the series of bilateral meetings he held with global counterparts in New York.

Mr. Jaishankar acknowledged the complex history between India and China, including past conflicts, and pointed out the intricacies of their relationship as two populous nations with overlapping interests.

Regarding the ongoing issues with China, Mr. Jaishankar noted that progress has been made in resolving disengagement problems but highlighted the need to address patrolling and border issues.

He explained that the border between India and China is disputed and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace along the border to facilitate overall relationship progress.

Mr. Jaishankar discussed the events leading up to the 2020 Galwan clash and underscored the need to restore peace and adherence to agreements for the relationship to move forward.
