‘The Anonymous’ Star Dillian Frelow Wanted To Play Tribute To Beyoncé Through His Fashions: “She Makes Me Proud To Be From Texas”

Everything is said to be bigger in Texas, and Dillian Frelow embodies that statement. With his bold yet stylish fashion choices and lively personality, the Texan made quite the impression on USA Network’s The Anonymous. From the moment he arrived at the Square House, Frelow captivated both his fellow contestants and the audience with his infectious energy and witty remarks.

Frelow didn’t hesitate to apply for The Anonymous, a reality TV competition that combines elements of The Circle, The Traitors, and Big Brother. “They needed someone with all this energy,” Frelow explained. “And who else would bring the fashion?” Frelow’s unique style immediately set him apart from the other players, especially his subtle nods to Beyoncé throughout the season. “Beyoncé makes me proud to be from Texas,” Frelow expressed. “I wanted people to see the real me,” he continued, “and if you know Dillian, you know he adores Beyoncé.”

His fellow contestants quickly learned that his kindness should not be mistaken for weakness. Frelow confronted Christopher Shulstad for secretly campaigning against him in Anonymous Mode. “I was minding my own business when he approached me with fake enthusiasm,” Frelow recalled. Believing Shulstad was trying to cause drama, Frelow took matters into his own hands. “You may not listen to me, but you will campaign against me,” Frelow asserted. “I showed him how to put on a show.”

Frelow formed bonds with several players, including Fyre Festival’s Andy King and Nina Twine, daughter of Survivor legend Sandra Diaz-Twine. “Andy is truly a gay icon,” Frelow praised. The two connected during the game by taking walks in the garden and doing stretches throughout the day. As for Twine, Frelow commended their “strong and strategic alliance.” “She played the game with such intelligence,” he remarked.

Frelow visited the DECIDER studio to discuss his experience on the show, his efforts to remain incognito in Anonymous Mode, and his insights on some of the players.

DECIDER: Venturing into something new always involves risks. What motivated you to apply for The Anonymous?

DILLIAN FRELOW: It was a spontaneous decision, baby [laughs]. I heard about this new TV show and thought, “Put me in it.” They knew they needed someone with this kind of energy. Who else could bring the fashion?

What was your game plan entering the competition?

My strategy was based on the idea that people are drawn to visual appeal. I knew if I showcased a fashionable outfit from the start—and every day thereafter—that would capture their attention. Let them absorb my style, be amazed, and then decide on how to approach me later [laughs]. I knew that once I let them know the party had arrived, I would win them over. My strategy revolved around personality, fashion, looks, and entertainment.

Your wardrobe is truly remarkable. What was your luggage situation like when you arrived at the house?

I wanted to pack every single item from my closet, but that wasn’t feasible. When I checked my bags at the airport, the attendant exclaimed, “Oh, your bags weigh 96 kg. That’s the heaviest luggage I’ve seen in my five years here.” [Laughs] I had to discard some clothes in the middle of the airport for my luggage to make it to Spain. But, you know, I made it work. I’m a fashion icon. I can mix and match to ensure my fashion is always on point.

Throughout the show, you sported various outfits paying homage to Beyoncé, like the “Cowboy Carter” sash. Why was this tribute important to you?

First and foremost, I adore Beyoncé. She fills me with pride as a Texan. Her work is a constant inspiration to me. I’m a lifelong member of the Beyhive. I wanted people to see the real me. If you know Dillian, you know he’s a huge Beyoncé fan. Beyoncé is my muse. I’ve attended almost all her tours and even met her at the Super Bowl. I approach life the way Beyoncé does—bold energy, iconic fashion, and always entertaining.

When the house learned Andy’s true identity as Andy King of Fyre Festival fame, you had the best reaction. What was your initial response?

Andy is undeniably a gay icon. When I first saw him in the house, I recognized him but couldn’t place him. When I discovered he was the Andy King, I was overjoyed. That morning when he revealed his identity, I was ecstatic. However, I maintained my composure afterward [laughs]. Andy and I bonded over morning routines, stretches, and walks in the garden. He’s a dear friend of mine.

Who were your closest allies during the competition?

I initially connected with Xavier, but when he didn’t celebrate my victory, I was a bit disappointed. We get it, you won Big Brother. Move on. However, I had a great rapport with Nina. She played strategically and intelligently. I didn’t realize she was Sandra’s daughter until later on. We debriefed after every Anonymous Mode, and I valued her insights.

Nina and I used to compare notes in the game, maintaining a strong alliance without revealing our identities in Anonymous Mode. She would inform me if anyone was talking negatively about me, and I would do the same for her.

In Episode 4, after Nina spilled some tea about Christopher, I wasted no time in confronting him. He ended up with four votes against him, while I received none. When he tried to approach me with fake energy, I shut him down, showing my authenticity.

Hiding my big personality in Anonymous Mode was a challenge. I had to remind myself to keep quiet and stick to a simple strategy as Popsicle. I only spoke one line, announcing who would be up for elimination that night.

A significant moment in the game was in Episode 5 when I trusted my gut and my late mother’s spirit to choose to steal Marcel’s purple box. It was an emotional moment that will stay with me forever.

After securing my safety, I had to immediately put someone at risk as part of DANI’s twist. It was a difficult decision, but I chose Jack, as I couldn’t put a woman at risk and didn’t want to target Andy.

Watching Jack’s gameplay back, I was surprised by his manipulative tactics. He played a sweet persona in the house but was strategic in his moves.

I have notes for other players based on their gameplay, pointing out areas for improvement and observations. As for the rest of the season, I plan to showcase all my outfits and continue to bring my unique flair to the game.

Tune in to The Anonymous on Monday nights at 11/10c on USA Network to see how the rest of the season unfolds. Can you please rewrite this sentence?
