NYT Mini Crossword today: puzzle answers for Friday, August 23

The New York Times has unveiled its latest addition to the Games section, following the success of Wordle. The new game, Digits, is centered around math and challenges players to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. The beta version of Digits is currently available to play for free online.
In Digits, players are tasked with reaching a target number by using six given numbers and applying various mathematical operations. Players can choose which numbers to use in order to create equations that will bring them closer to the target number. This game will test your math skills as you strategize to reach the goal number.

Players can earn a five-star rating for matching the target number exactly, a three-star rating for getting within 10 of the target, and a one-star rating for getting within 25 of the target number. Additionally, players can access five different puzzles with progressively larger numbers. I personally enjoyed solving today’s puzzle and found Digits to be a stimulating number-based game that will appeal to fans of puzzle games like Threes, Wordle, and Spelling Bee from The New York Times.
In an article introducing Digits and discussing the development process, The New York Times Games team mentioned that they will use the beta phase to address any issues and determine whether to proceed with further development. Therefore, it is recommended to try out Digits now, as The New York Times may discontinue the project based on user feedback.
The beta version of Digits is currently accessible for free on The New York Times Games’ website
