Pune airport to see two new direct international flights to Dubai and Bangkok from October 27, ET TravelWorld

In a major relief for flyers of Pune travelling to Dubai and for the Pune airport, IndiGo will start a daily flight to Dubai and three flights a week to Bangkok from October 27 onwards. The announcement was made by Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol. Although Mohol did not specify the airline, Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke confirmed that both flights will be operated by IndiGo.

“Another airline also applied for the same route, but IndiGo secured the rights. They will commence both flights in the upcoming winter schedule. The specific days, flight timings, etc., have not been finalized yet,” Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke told TOI.

“The demand from Pune residents for this service has been present for several months and is now being met. Direct connectivity between Pune and an important financial hub like Dubai will greatly benefit Pune and western Maharashtra. The daily connection between Pune and Dubai is expected to bridge the gap between the two cities and open up new opportunities for economic growth.
Additionally, popular tourist destinations like Bangkok will now have direct connectivity to Pune,” Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol stated. The Pune airport currently operates two international flights— one to Dubai by SpiceJet and another to Singapore by Vistara. The Singapore flight has been operational since December 2023, while the Dubai flight has been in operation for years.

However, the financial challenges faced by SpiceJet have resulted in frequent delays for the Dubai flight, prompting many passengers to opt for flights from Mumbai instead. The introduction of the new flights has been well received by flyers who believe it will bring them relief.
