God of War Ragnarok PC review bombed over controversial Sony policy

After nearly two years since its initial PS5 release, Sony’s God of War Ragnarok PC port has finally arrived and is facing backlash from angry gamers on Steam. Currently, it holds a “mixed” 65% user rating. The main issue causing this uproar is Sony’s requirement for a PlayStation Network account to access its PC titles.

Many are questioning the need for a PSN sign-up for a singleplayer-only game like God of War Ragnarok, especially since there is no essential online or multiplayer component. Some Steam users in regions where PSN is not available may be unable to experience the conclusion of Kratos’s journey despite purchasing and playing the original game on PC.

Sony’s insistence on this requirement seems to be aimed at bringing PC players into its broader PlayStation ecosystem, particularly as more first-party games make their way to PC. However, some dedicated PC players are resistant to this hurdle, especially after Sony’s handling of the Helldivers 2 situation earlier this year.

As Sony continues to bring its exclusive titles to PC, it will be interesting to see if the backlash subsides over time. Despite the controversy, God of War Ragnarok remains one of the standout open world action games of the current console generation.

In our review of God of War Ragnarok, we commented, “Kratos has evolved significantly since his early adventures in the Aegean Sea. The God of War series has also evolved, pushing the boundaries of hack and slash gameplay and solidifying its place as a major player in modern gaming. As winter approaches, God of War Ragnarok offers a captivating adventure to immerse yourself in.”

Since its launch in late 2022, the game has received a substantial Valhalla update, introducing a plethora of new content and features.
