Getting Nostalgic: It’s incredible to think that I’ve been a PlayStation gamer for almost three decades now. From the original consoles to the latest models, I’ve collected them all over the years. To mark this milestone, Sony is taking us back in time with a retro release.

For those eager to pre-order the PlayStation 5 Pro, you might want to pause for a moment. Sony has just unveiled a special 30th-anniversary edition that pays homage to the classic PlayStation design. The console comes in the iconic gray color with the original multicolor PS logo, each unit featuring a unique limited edition number. To complete the package, a two-tone gray DualSense Edge controller is included.

The bundle includes a 2TB SSD, WiFi 7, a DualSense charging station, and a cover for the disc drive compartment (disc drives sold separately). Additionally, it comes with some exclusive collector’s items like an original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing, cable ties, a PS Sticker, a poster, and a PS paperclip.

Sony has not disclosed the price of this retro-themed bundle, but it is expected to be higher than the standard PS5 Pro retail price of $700. With only 12,300 units available, they are likely to sell out quickly.

If you’re not interested in the Pro model, Sony also offers the 30th Anniversary PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. This version comes with a 1TB SSD, a matching DualSense controller (not the Edge), and similar bonus items as the Pro model. Availability of this edition is not limited, making it easier to acquire.

Furthermore, Sony will release retro-themed PlayStation Portal, DualSense, and DualSense Edge controllers. While pricing details are not yet available, they are expected to be affordable.

Fans can start pre-ordering the limited edition PlayStation 5 Pro, Portal, and DualSense Edge controllers through PlayStation Direct on September 26. For regions without PS Direct, these items will be available through 26 retail partners.

Pre-orders for the retro PS5 Digital Edition and regular DualSense controller will also open on the 26th through PlayStation Direct. Retailer reservations for the PS5 Digital Edition will begin on October 10, while controller pre-orders will be available on September 26.

For those opting to purchase from traditional retailers, it’s advisable to be prepared for potential scarcity similar to the 2020 PS5 launch. Scalpers may seize the opportunity to resell these items quickly. Regardless of the ordering method or product variant, all orders are set to ship on November 21. Happy shopping!
