Some Goodbyes We Made is a collection of sorrowfully sweet games about saying goodbye
As the workday in the UK draws to a close, and the last moments slip away through the hourglass on our overlord Graham’s desk, I bid you farewell with a review of Some Goodbyes We Made.
Developed by Safe Flight Games, this hour-long collection features 11 minigames ranging from visual novels to platformers and character creators, all presented in a delightful faux-desktop interface. Each game focuses on the theme of bidding farewell – whether it’s to a former home, university life, or a lost friendship. “Experience the protagonist’s emotions as they navigate through these goodbyes, each with its own unique complexities and emotions,” explains the Steam page.
While the games aim to tug at your heartstrings, they also maintain a playful and mischievous style. From waving goodbye to a departing train to causing chaos during a house move, each mini-game offers a different perspective on parting ways.
The developers behind Safe Flight Games are both graduates of New York University Game Center, known for producing engaging experimental games. The idea of a collection of endings is intriguing and reminiscent of John Thyer’s Facets micro-RPG.
However, delving into Some Goodbyes We Made may not be a casual decision for everyone. The developers suggest that players may find themselves reflecting on their own goodbyes while playing, which can be a bittersweet experience. Despite this, the concept is fascinating, and I am curious to explore how they have implemented it across various genres.
Some Goodbyes We Made is set to launch on 25th October. So, instead of saying goodbye, I’ll simply say: see you tomorrow!
