What’s new in iOS 18?

While Apple initially highlighted Apple Intelligence during the iOS 18 announcement, those AI enhancements are not included in the update. Apple plans to introduce AI features in future versions of iOS 18, such as iOS 18.1, iOS 18.2, iOS 18.3, and possibly iOS 18.4. However, older iPhone models may not support these advanced AI capabilities. Apple Intelligence will bring improvements to Siri, new writing tools, image generation, and enhanced privacy features. Only the iPhone 15 Pro series and iPhone 16 series will be compatible with Apple Intelligence.

iOS 18 introduces a range of new features and enhancements. Users can now customize their home screen layout with more flexibility, including the ability to place apps anywhere on the screen. The update also includes improvements to the theme engine for enhanced color customization. The Control Center has been redesigned for easier access to controls, allowing users to add and rearrange panels, swipe between different pages, and access media controls and Home settings more conveniently. Additionally, iOS 18 now supports third-party app controls.

Several Apple apps have also received updates and enhancements. Messages now supports RCS, Mail offers improved sorting options, Maps includes new topographical features, and Wallet introduces a Tap to Cash feature. The Photos app has undergone a significant redesign, with a new Gallery view at the top and the ability to browse photos by year or month.

Privacy remains a top priority for Apple in iOS 18. Users can now hide apps on their home screen and place them in a secure, hidden app folder that requires authentication to access. A new Game Mode is available, reducing background app activity for smoother gameplay on iPhones and improved responsiveness with AirPods and wireless game controllers.
