UK explorer and team discover a source of Amazon river and two waterfalls, while being tracked by jaguar

Ticks, Tarantulas, and Uncharted Territory: UK Explorer Discovers Source of Amazon River

An intrepid UK explorer, Ash Dykes, has achieved a remarkable feat by discovering the source of an uncharted Amazon river and two waterfalls in Suriname. Despite being stalked by a jaguar and attacked by insects, Dykes and his team of adventurers successfully mapped the coordinates of the Coppename River and set a new world record for ascending Julianatop, the tallest mountain in Suriname.

During their expedition, the team encountered various challenges, including being bitten by ticks, army ants, and encountering wildlife such as goliath tarantulas, snakes, and caimans. Dykes, who lost three toenails during the journey, described the experience as brutal but rewarding.

Despite facing these obstacles, the team managed to name two previously undocumented waterfalls, ‘Dykes Falls’ and ‘Wallace Falls,’ after the team members who first spotted them. Dykes, along with his companions, navigated through the dense Suriname jungle, surviving on ration packs and fish caught from the river.

The expedition brought them to remote and unexplored areas, where they found waterfalls that are not on any GPS. Dykes expressed the thrill of discovering these natural wonders in a location untouched by civilization.

With plans to climb Suriname’s second-highest peak and break another world record, Dykes reflects on his passion for exploration and the challenges he has overcome on previous expeditions. His adventurous spirit and determination continue to drive him to seek out new and uncharted territories.

As Dykes looks ahead to future expeditions, he remains committed to pushing the boundaries of exploration and discovery, driven by a deep-seated desire to explore the unknown.
