Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has reunited with Square Enix to publish Fantasian Neo Dimension. This move marks the end of his retirement plans as he is now working on an unannounced game.

Previously, Sakaguchi hinted at his new project on Twitter, but this is the first official confirmation of the game. Despite Fantasian being considered his swan song, Sakaguchi stated, “I made FANTASIAN thinking it might really be a retirement piece, but yes, I am withdrawing my retirement. We are starting to make progress on a new work, which means we are working on a new game.”

In an interview with Famitsu, Sakaguchi teased his new game, revealing that it will involve almost the same team that worked on Fantasian. He expressed his enjoyment in game production, saying, “It may be more of a pleasure than a job.”

Fantasian Neo Dimension is Sakaguchi’s current project, described as an “enhanced version” of the Apple-exclusive fantasy RPG. The game will be launching for various platforms this holiday season.

Sakaguchi also hinted that his upcoming game may offer an intimate look at his life and family, as he mentioned his excitement about becoming a grandparent soon. He stated, “I am excited to be able to develop games with everyone again. On a personal note, I am expecting a grandchild soon. I hope to incorporate what I feel at that time into the new game.”
