Cruise ship passenger arrested, accused of raping woman on board

A man from Texas, who comes from a law enforcement family, was arrested in Florida after a woman accused him of raping her onboard a cruise ship.

Juan Campos, 28, was taken into custody when the Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas docked at Port Everglades following allegations made by a 20-year-old woman who claimed he assaulted her mid-cruise on August 28, as reported by Local 10 News.

The accuser stated that Campos penetrated her against her will with an unknown object, causing her to push him away and tell him to stop as it was hurting her, according to an arrest report.

The woman also alleged that Campos attempted to force her into performing oral sex on him and then tried to penetrate her again when she refused, as per the report.

However, Campos’ attorney claimed that the encounter was consensual and that his client stopped when asked to do so.

According to the attorney, Ed Hoeg, “It sounds like they were making out, things escalated, but when the lady said ‘stop,’ he stopped.”

Campos, who hails from Houston and comes from a law enforcement family, has no prior criminal record, according to his attorney.

He was removed from the ship at Port Everglades and is currently held at Broward County Main Jail on a $20,000 bond.

These allegations come in the wake of a recent case where a woman was awarded over $12 million by Carnival Cruise Line after accusing a crew member of raping her during a 2018 trip.

Judge Kathleen Williams granted the ruling after the victim claimed that the Carnival staffer assaulted her onboard the Carnival Miracle on December 1, 2018.

The woman was initially awarded $10 million in 2022, and after Carnival appealed the verdict, an additional $2 million was added by Judge Williams.

The crew member, Fredy Anggara, was never arrested in connection to the incident and was not listed as a defendant in the legal action.
