Control 2 partnership between Remedy and Annapurna announced

Remedy Entertainment and Annapurna have formed a strategic partnership, with Annapurna contributing 50% of the development budget for Control 2. The collaboration will also extend to bringing Control and Alan Wake to the film and television industry. Annapurna will focus on the film and television adaptations, while Remedy will concentrate on game development.

Remedy Entertainment’s CEO, Tero Virtala, stated, “Our main focus at Remedy remains on creating groundbreaking video games that have gained global recognition. Now is the perfect time to expand the reach of Remedy’s popular franchises to a wider audience through film, television, and more. With Annapurna as our partner, we are excited to see our universes and characters come to life in new mediums through this unique deal.”

“The future of storytelling involves seamlessly merging gaming, film, and television, and this partnership will enable us to explore new ways of storytelling across mediums,” said Megan Ellison, Founder and CEO of Annapurna. “By utilizing Remedy’s innovative narratives and immersive worlds, we can redefine how stories are told and experienced across different platforms.”

Previously, Remedy had a co-development agreement with 505 Games for Control 2. Earlier this year, Remedy acquired the rights to the Control series from 505 Games, which included Control 2 and the co-op project Concord. In May, Remedy announced the cancellation of another co-op game known as Project Kestrel, which was being developed in partnership with Tencent.

Efforts have been made in the past to adapt Alan Wake into a movie, dating back to 2010. In 2020, Gary Whitta expressed interest in writing a script for a Control movie, although no progress has been made on this front. Perhaps Gary will now have the opportunity to write the movie.
