Indie developer Chucklefish has revealed that Starbound will finally be making its way to Xbox consoles, marking over a decade since the team first teased a console version.

Starbound is set to arrive on Xbox consoles in the near future, with a playtest currently underway to gather feedback for the final release of the game on Xbox platforms.

“It’s been a while, but we’re excited to announce that Starbound is almost ready for its Xbox launch! Before the release, we are seeking your feedback on Xbox controls, UI, & UX in the Xbox Insider playtest! Your input will help us make final adjustments,” the developer stated.

Starbound initially launched in early access beta in 2013 and officially released in July 2016 on Windows PC through Steam. Since then, it has not been available on consoles, unlike its predecessor, Terraria, which has seen releases on various platforms.

Key feedback areas that Chucklefish is focusing on before the Xbox release of Starbound include button mapping (crucial for sandbox games on consoles) and balancing adjustments specifically made for the console version.

The ongoing Starbound playtest for Xbox will continue until September 4th and is exclusive to Xbox Insiders. Access to the playtest can be obtained through the Xbox Insider Program via the Insider Hub app in the Xbox Store.
