Keen to see Dragon Age get a Fallout-style TV series? Well, its former lead writer would rather watch an Animal Crossing political thriller

With the success of Amazon’s Fallout TV show, many are speculating on which video game series should be adapted next for Hollywood. Surprisingly, for Dragon Age’s former lead writer, the answer isn’t Dragon Age.

It seems that not everyone involved in a video game believes that it would translate well to the big screen. Some elements might not carry over effectively, even with nods to the original game or clever references.

Responding to a post about the potential for Fallout-style TV shows based on other games, David Gaider, the former lead writer of the Dragon Age series at Bioware, tweeted that a Dragon Age show would be “a terrible idea”.

His reasoning? Gaider explained that without the interactive element, Dragon Age would be reduced to a generic fantasy story. He noted that capturing the unique and interesting aspects of the game would require a deep dive, rather than a straightforward adaptation.

Gaider’s response to the idea of a Baldur’s Gate show was similar, as he struggled to envision it as something fresh. He stated, “I have a hard time imagining a Baldur’s Gate show being something we haven’t already seen, multiple times.”

So, what would Gaider like to see adapted? He mentioned a “David Lynch-style (on acid) Disco Elysium” and even proposed an intriguing concept of “Animal Crossing, but it’s a tense political thriller” to ensure a unique adaptation that doesn’t just replicate the game experience.
