Amazingly grim retro sci-fi android spelunker Lorn’s Lure finally has a release date

If you enjoy exploring pixelated architecture in a world filled with a sense of melancholy, mark your calendars for September 20th as Rubeki’s first-person game Lorn’s Lure will be launching on Steam. I’ve been eagerly anticipating this release. Be sure to watch the new trailer below.

Lorn’s Lure follows the story of an android on a quest to chase a strange visual anomaly through a vast, bleak, dystopian structure created with retro 90s PC textures. One of the game’s unique features is the ability to climb almost any surface using pickaxes, as long as you have the stamina.

The gameplay can be challenging – I remember trying the demo a few years back and getting stuck under a massive overhang. However, it is also quite calming. There is no rush to complete tasks, no imminent threats, and plenty to explore and ponder. Who is this android you’re controlling? What draws them to the anomaly? Who else roams this desolate world?

“I do like a megastructure, and I do like an abandoned megastructure, and I really like freely exploring an abandoned megastructure,” Alice0 (RPS in peace) wrote about Lorn’s Lure in 2023, perfectly capturing my own sentiments while playing the demo. If you’re intrigued, the demo is still accessible and has been updated with a new introductory cutscene, Steam Deck compatibility, revamped level designs, and new music, among other enhancements.
