Hillary Clinton, AOC to warm up DNC crowd for Biden

CHICAGO — Hillary Clinton and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are set to speak on Monday night before President Biden’s appearance at the Democratic convention.

Clinton, the Democratic nominee in 2016, and Ocasio-Cortez are expected to urge voters to prevent Donald Trump from returning to the White House. Anti-Israel protesters are rallying outside the convention.

The lineup of speakers starts at 5:15 p.m. local time with a call to order by Democratic adviser Minyon Moore and ends with Biden’s farewell speech at 9:50 p.m. Central.

Other speakers on Monday include New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who led the opposition to the impeachment inquiry into Biden for alleged corruption. The inquiry concluded with a report alleging impeachable offenses related to his family’s foreign dealings.

Also speaking is first-term Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), who previously made controversial remarks about Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

Biden, 81, is looking forward to his speech, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Jean-Pierre described the speech as a fulfilling moment for Biden, despite his withdrawal from the race on July 21.

The outgoing president will be introduced by his wife Jill Biden and daughter Ashley Biden.

Speakers preceding Biden include Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) and United Auto Workers president Shawn Fain.

Other speakers on Monday include Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), Gov. Andy Beshear (D-Ky.), Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.

Each night of the convention has a theme, with Monday’s theme being “For the People.” This is also the slogan of Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2020 campaign.
