Flat2VR Studios Announces Four Flatscreen Games Getting VR Ports for Major Headsets
Following their acceptance into the A16Z SPEEDRUN accelerator program, Flat2VR Studios has unveiled plans to officially port four existing flatscreen games to all major VR headsets.
Flat2VR Studios specializes in adapting flatscreen games for VR, and they have announced the first four titles currently in development. These games are set to be released on Quest, PSVR 2, and PC VR platforms. Take a look at the trailers below.
WRATH: Aeon of Ruin VR
The original WRATH: Aeon of Ruin (2024) is a hardcore FPS game inspired by the classics of the ’90s, utilizing the legendary Quake 1 Tech. Set in a decaying realm, players must uncover secrets and defeat the Guardians of the Old World. The game has received a “Mostly Positive” rating (77% favorable reviews) from Steam users.
The VR version will offer players direct control over their weapons. It will be interesting to see if the studio implements a manual reload system or sticks to button-based reloading animations. A release date for the VR port has not been announced yet.
Roboquest VR
The original Roboquest (2023) is a fast-paced FPS Roguelite set in a dystopian future. Players take on the role of a rebooted Guardian and must battle deadly bots in dynamic environments. The game has earned an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating (95% favorable reviews) on Steam.
The original game features co-op support for up to two players, and fans are hopeful that this will carry over to the Roboquest VR port by Flat2VR Studios. There is no release date announced for Roboquest VR yet.
Flatout VR
The original Flatout (2004) offers a mix of high-speed racing, demolition derby action, and death-defying stunts. Players are tasked with crashing and smashing their way through raceways. The game has garnered a “Very Positive” rating (92% favorable reviews) on Steam.
The Flatout VR port will immerse players in the driver’s seat, providing a thrilling VR racing experience. Given the intense crashes and potential for ejections, comfort design will be a key focus for the VR adaptation. Flatout VR does not have a confirmed release date yet.
Trombone Champ: Unflattened
Lastly, we have Trombone Champ, the viral meme-game of 2022 where players sound like amateurs even at their best. This rhythm game offers a unique experience where mistakes can be just as entertaining as hitting the perfect notes. The original game has received an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating (98% favorable reviews) on Steam.
The upcoming port, titled Trombone Champ: Unflattened, allows players to wield a trombone in VR. With motion controls, players can simulate playing the instrument by mimicking the slide movements of a real trombone. A release date for Trombone Champ: Unflattened has not been announced yet.
