According to Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Sheikh Hasina, who resigned as Prime Minister and left Bangladesh, will return to the country once democracy is restored. He accused Pakistan’s ISI of fueling the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. In an interview with PTI, Mr. Joy stated that his mother, Sheikh Hasina, would definitely come back to Bangladesh, although it is not yet decided whether she will return as a “retired or active” politician. He emphasized that the Sheikh Mujib family will stand by the people and the Awami League. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for protecting his mother and urged India to help build international support for the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh.
Mr. Joy mentioned that despite previous statements suggesting Sheikh Hasina would not return to Bangladesh, the recent attacks on party leaders and workers have changed the situation. He affirmed that they would do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of their people and reiterated the importance of the Awami League in Bangladesh’s political landscape. He called for India’s support in ensuring the security of Awami League leaders and restoring law and order in the country.
As Bangladesh prepares for an interim government, Mr. Joy stressed the need for a level playing field for all parties during future elections. He expressed hope that the interim government would prioritize restoring law and order to prevent the country from descending into chaos.
Regarding reports of foreign interference in the unrest, Mr. Joy suggested Pakistan’s ISI’s involvement based on circumstantial evidence. He also mentioned the use of firearms by rioters, which he believed could only come from terror groups and foreign powers. While he had no evidence of U.S. intelligence agency CIA’s involvement, he did not rule it out. He dismissed claims of Chinese involvement and clarified that Sheikh Hasina had no plans to seek asylum in the U.K. or any other country.
Mr. Joy emphasized the importance of restoring democracy in Bangladesh and hinted that Sheikh Hasina would return to the country in the future. He called on India to play a leading role in ensuring stability in the region by supporting the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh. He also highlighted the need to counter anti-India forces in the country to prevent further escalation of tensions.
He clarified that Sheikh Hasina’s departure from Bangladesh was a decision made to prevent further bloodshed and protect the lives of protestors. Despite criticisms of her government, he emphasized her commitment to avoiding violence and protecting the people. The death toll from the protests in Bangladesh continued to rise, underscoring the urgency of restoring peace and stability in the country.
