Two Women Killed and Five Injured in Rochester City Park Shooting

Tragedy struck at Maplewood Park in Rochester, New York, on Sunday night as a shooting incident resulted in the deaths of two women and injuries to five others, causing chaos and panic among the hundreds of people present at the park, as reported by the police.

The victims were identified as 25-year-old city worker Tyasia Manning and 34-year-old event planner Phylicia Council, both of whom were fatally wounded during the shooting. Manning passed away at the scene, while Council succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.

During a press conference on Monday, Mayor Malik Evans expressed the shock and sadness over the senseless violence, stating, “People were in a celebratory mood enjoying the warm weather, having a good time. But yet we had cowards that decided to start shooting.”

Police Chief David Smith revealed that multiple weapons were used in the shooting, but did not disclose the exact number of suspects involved. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Video footage of the chaotic scene showed the crowd fleeing from the park as gunshots rang out, leaving five other victims wounded but expected to recover from their injuries.

Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the shooters responsible for the tragedy.

Evans emphasized the importance of speaking out against such acts of violence, stating, “You have an obligation to make sure you make your voice is heard because your family member could be the next Phylicia or Tyasia.”

Phylicia Council, known for her event planning business “Imperfectly Perfect,” was described as a loving and caring individual by her friend Turbo Lewis, who expressed deep sadness over her untimely death.

Manning, who worked with children at the city’s Carter Street R-Center, was remembered as a dedicated and beloved staff member by Department of Recreation and Human Services Commissioner Shirley Green, who referred to her as “mama bear.”
