North Korean leader Kim Jong Un emphasized the importance of building a “paradise for the people” based on the sacrifices made by previous generations as the country commemorated the Korean War anniversary on July 27.

During the anniversary, Mr. Kim paid tribute to the veterans of the 1950-53 war, visiting memorials such as the Tower of Friendship dedicated to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army soldiers who fought alongside North Korea, as reported by KCNA state news agency.

The Korean War concluded on July 27, 1953, with an armistice agreement signed by North Korea, the United States, and China. This agreement marked the end of the three-year conflict, with U.S. generals representing the United Nations forces supporting South Korea.

“Comrade Kim Jong Un affirmed that it is our generation’s sacred duty to uphold the ideology and system defended by our predecessors with blood, and to create a prosperous society for our people,” KCNA stated.

Although the armistice established a border dividing the Korean peninsula and restored equilibrium after significant territorial shifts during the war, North Korea commemorates July 27 as “Victory Day.”

While South Korea does not hold major events on this day, North Korea celebrated with festivities including banquets, a parade by the revolutionary youth vanguard, and a mass dance in Pyongyang’s main square accompanied by fireworks, as reported by KCNA.
