Indie developer Four Leaf Studios has announced that the beloved visual novel Katawa Shoujo is set to make a return on modern platforms.

Katawa Shoujo will be available on modern Windows platforms through Steam and itch.io starting from August 15th, as revealed by the developers.

The Steam version will be suitable for all ages, but for those interested in adult content, an R18 patch can be installed through its Itch.io page. Similar to previous releases, the game will be free to play.

Katawa Shoujo originated from sketches by Raita Honjou in the mid-2000s and gained popularity on the image board 4chan. The game was developed by a team of both Japanese and non-Japanese creators, with the initial release dating back to 2012.

Following its debut in 2012, Katawa Shoujo was exclusively available for download from the game’s official website and through Bittorrent.

The narrative unfolds at Yamaku High School in Sendai, Japan, where students with various disabilities attend. The protagonist, Hisao Nakai, enrolls in the school following a heart attack and interacts with five students, each with their own unique disabilities and personalities. As the story progresses, players must make decisions to determine which girl will become Hisao’s significant other.
