'Into the Radius 2' Releases in Early Access on PC VR Today, Including Two-Player Co-op

CM Games, the developer behind the single-player survival shooter Into the Radius (2020), has launched its highly-anticipated sequel on Steam Early Access today, taking players back to the dangerous Pechorsk Security Zone.

Similar to the original game, Into the Radius 2 is an immersive VR survival shooter set in a surreal landscape riddled with deadly anomalies. Offering both single-player and two-player co-op modes (with four-player co-op to be added later), players will arm themselves with realistic weapons and delve deeper into the mysteries of the Pechorsk Security Zone.

According to CM Games, the sequel retains beloved features from the first game, such as “meticulously crafted weapons and attachments, a sophisticated loot-management system, and the freedom to explore dangerous locations filled with anomalies and eerie enemies.”

While managing high expectations from the original Into the Radius, the team addressed some concerns in a recent Steam news update:

First and foremost, it’s important to acknowledge that the Early Access version of ITR2 will not have as much content as the current state of ITR1. This is due to the extensive development journey of the original game with numerous updates. It will take time for ITR2 to reach the same level of content, which will only be possible after the full release.

Expect the Early Access version of ITR2 to have bugs and issues, as it is crucial for us to gather player feedback to improve the game, similar to the process we followed with ITR1.

The studio announced that the Early Access version will include a tutorial location, a base, and the first large gameplay area, but the full narrative content will be added later on.

The initial “small location” will provide a few hours of gameplay, serving as the setting for initial missions and later side quests.

The first main ‘Radius’ location is described as “larger and more complex” than the previous one, offering 5 – 10 hours of gameplay in its current state.

The “fully revamped, next-generation” Explorer Base is expected to enhance the gameplay experience and unveil significant storyline changes in the future.

The studio also outlined what players should not expect immediately from the initial release:

  • Story moments or episodes. Gameplay will be the focus initially, with narrative elements to be expanded in future updates.
  • Weapon wear, cleaning, repair, and customization.
  • Hunger mechanics and recovery.
  • Armor and helmets.
  • New enemy types.
  • Full implementation of the Tide system.
  • Laboratory at the Base, artifacts with perks, and their processing.
  • Difficulty settings.
  • Stable co-op mode with functional radios. Co-op improvements will continue until the full release.
