Texas teacher Ayden Burt 'randomly' shot dead at outdoor bar during coaches convention

A tragic incident occurred in San Antonio when a young Texas high school English teacher and cheer coach, Ayden Burt, 28, was “randomly” shot and killed at an outdoor bar. She was in town for the Texas High School Coaches Association Conference when the shooting took place at a local rooftop bar just after midnight.

The police are investigating the shooting as random and are seeking information from the public to bring justice to Ayden and her family. A bullet struck Ayden in the upper back while she was on the rooftop patio of Smoke Skybar on East Crockett Street. She was with other coaches from across the state when the tragic incident occurred.

Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, Ayden could not be saved. She had been teaching English at Jasper Junior High and Jasper High School since 2019, also coaching volleyball and cheerleading teams. The community is mourning her loss, and grief counseling has been made available for students, staff, and community members.

Jasper ISD Superintendent John Seybold expressed shock and sadness over Ayden’s passing, highlighting her kindhearted nature and the positive impact she had on the lives of those around her. Ayden came from a family of educators in Jasper, with both her father and grandfather having served as principals at Jasper Junior High.

The school district and the community are devastated by the loss of such a beloved member, and prayers for comfort have been requested for Ayden’s family and the Jasper ISD community.
