FlatOut 1, 2 and Ultimate Carnage all get Workshop support, Deck verification in new updates

When it comes to car combat games, I prefer the focus to be on collisions rather than guns. FlatOut is a series that delivers exactly that – bumper car racing with a thrilling layer of excitement and strategy on top of a racing core. Long before games like Wreckfest or BeamNG, FlatOut impressed players with its realistic crumple zones.

The good news is that FlatOut, FlatOut 2, and FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage have all received updates on Steam. These updates bring Workshop support, Steam Deck verified status, improved performance, and even re-enabled online multiplayer for FlatOut 2.

FlatOut 2 stands out with its detailed patch notes, including the restoration of an unused track titled ‘Papa Roach – Blood Brothers’. This detail gives insight into the game’s era and style. The sequel also introduces new features such as new translations, widescreen monitor support, and multiplayer through OpenSpy.net.

The original FlatOut also receives a significant update, with graphical tweaks, minor fixes, and improvements. While the patch notes for FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage are shorter, the recent update adds Workshop support, building upon the enhancements introduced in the Collector’s Edition released earlier this year.

FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage started as an enhanced console port of FlatOut 2, offering new tracks and modes. It’s important to note that this is not the same as FlatOut 3, a different game from a different developer that was not well-received.

If you’re new to the FlatOut series, consider trying Wreckfest, the spiritual successor developed by the creators of FlatOut. However, if you’re looking for more of the same after playing Wreckfest, FlatOut still has plenty to offer, as highlighted by Adam in 2016.
