Switch players simply don’t understand why Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is missing this crucial feature
Have you ever found yourself not quite enjoying your friends’ company? Well, the latest release of Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition may not be the ideal game to settle any disputes through a competitive battle for the best time on the first level of Super Mario Bros as easily as anticipated.
With its focus on speedrunning segments of various classic NES games through a series of challenges, one would expect leaderboards to play a significant role in the game. However, it seems that they are not as prominent as many players had hoped.
Before delving into the grievances of those who may have the DK rap on repeat (as one should, given its cultural significance), it’s important to note that Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition does feature a leaderboard. However, it appears to be a weekly world ranking system.
This means that the leaderboard is only accessible once the weekly event has concluded, preventing players from continuously striving to improve their times and climb the rankings. This limitation eliminates the excitement of competing against friends or family members in real-time leaderboard challenges.
This decision has not been well-received by reviewers and eager players on platforms like Reddit and Twitter. One player expressed disappointment, stating, “I’ve played for a while, but no leaderboards and friends’ records is a letdown in this type of game. I probably won’t stick with this title for long. Nintendo’s online features are stuck in the 19th century.”
Some players have resorted to sharing photos of their screens with friends they are challenging, reminiscent of the old-school practice of mailing photos to Nintendo Power magazine.
