Nintendo adds Super Mario Land, other Game Boy titles to Switch Online library

Commemorating 35 years of the Game Boy system, Nintendo Switch Online members now have the opportunity to play three original launch titles as part of the expanding game library.

Back in 1989, Game Boy was introduced, bringing along Alleyway, Baseball, and the inaugural Super Mario game for the system, Super Mario Land.

Members of Nintendo Switch Online can now enjoy these three original launch titles as the latest additions to the Game Boy – Nintendo Switch Online library, coinciding with the handheld console’s 35th anniversary.

Super Mario Land transports players to the picturesque kingdoms of Sarasaland, where they will journey through ancient ruins, navigate rough waters, and overcome various challenges. Playing as Mario, you must run, jump, and bounce your way through a mission to rescue Princess Daisy from a mysterious alien and bring peace back to the land. The game features unique gameplay elements like the Superball Mario powerup and levels where Mario pilots an airplane and submarine.

Baseball is a classic Game Boy title from 1989 that involves pitching fastballs while adjusting curve and speed, all while ensuring your pitcher doesn’t tire out. Strike out the opposing team and then take your turn at bat. As the batting team, strategize your moves by shifting your batter on the home plate and timing their swing with the incoming ball to secure victory.

Alleyway challenges players to use a bouncing energy ball to break blocks and earn points. As Mario, you will pilot your spaceship at the entrance of the Alleyway and destroy the space grids by deflecting the energy ball towards them. Keep your vessel moving and the ball in play until all blocks are cleared to advance to the next stage. With challenging alternating stages, bonus rounds, and the need for speed and quick reflexes, players will need to stay sharp.
