Danny Trejo Gets Into Fight With Fourth of July Parade Attendees: "We Were Provoked"

Machete actor Danny Trejo engaged in a physical altercation with Fourth of July parade attendees in the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood of Los Angeles on Thursday.

Footage from the scene captured the 80-year-old exiting his vehicle after a water balloon struck the vintage convertible he was in, leading him to throw a punch (and a lawn chair) before being momentarily knocked to the ground.

Onlookers near the vehicle can be heard shouting “No water!” as Trejo mentioned that someone claimed there was acid in the balloons, which angered him.

Trejo expressed to TMZ that he felt he was targeted due to his Mexican heritage, implying that race may have played a role. His companion displayed his injuries post-fight, displaying various bruises and a black eye.

ABC7 Eyewitness News in the Los Angeles area reported that the incident lasted approximately 10 minutes until law enforcement intervened and dispersed the crowd.

Prior to the altercation, Trejo’s car was stationary as he interacted with parade attendees and took selfies along the route.

Although initial videos seemed to show Trejo initiating the physical confrontation, the actor claimed that the other individual had grabbed him first.

An eyewitness informed ABC7 that water balloons are a customary part of the parade, but Trejo appeared agitated as “people typically do not throw water balloons at luxury cars during the event.”

Trejo remarked that it is disheartening for grown men to resort to attacking an elderly individual like himself.

The esteemed actor celebrated his 80th birthday earlier in May.
