Surrey RCMP monitoring man after complaints from community – BC
An increase in complaints from residents of Ocean Park, a neighborhood in South Surrey, has prompted action from the police.
The Surrey RCMP has stated that they are now keeping an eye on the individual at the center of these complaints.
According to reports from residents, the individual in question has been approaching women and girls in the area and making disturbing comments.
Some residents have managed to take photos of the individual, and he has also been captured by doorbell cameras in the early hours of the morning.
Some residents claim that the individual has been very explicit about his intentions.
“We’ve increasingly heard, especially last week, we’ve heard of him approaching women specifically and being quite brazen and blunt with what he’d like to do, and asking them if they would like to go into the bushes and saying his name and where he’s from and that he had been in and out of jail,” 14B Blockwatch captain Alexis Zehr said.

RCMP Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha mentioned that while no criminal activity has been confirmed, the detachment is treating the complaints seriously.
Due to privacy laws, Sangha could not disclose any details or the nature of the complaints, which began earlier in the week.
“Surrey RCMP is aware of community concerns regarding an individual in the Ocean Park area of South Surrey,” Surrey RCMP stated.
“Frontline officers as well as the South Community Response Unit are actively involved and monitoring the situation.”
Local MLA Trevor Halford expressed concern that the community is living in fear and, while he appreciates the actions taken by the police, he is worried that the situation could escalate.
“You had a group of dads frustrated with what was going on, they walked the guy to the bus stop, put him on the bus and demanded he get out of town and what do you know he’s back here at 6 a.m., 12 hours later,” he said.
“My biggest fear is it’s going to lead to a physical encounter.”
Sangha mentioned that the police have been holding community meetings with members of the public in recent days to discuss the incidents and address any concerns.
She also stated that the police have made contact with the individual in question.
“We want the community to be at ease. Our officers are in the community. Please reach out to them if you have any concerns,” Sangha said.
