GastroAntep is held annually in Turkey’s gastronomy capital, Gaziantep, attracting numerous festivalgoers with its showcase of local cuisine.

This year, Turkey’s biggest gastronomy festival in Gaziantep went digital for the first time. Gaziantep Mayor Fatma Sahin stated in a written interview, “We organized the third session of our annual international festival with the same enthusiasm, but in a digital format this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.” The festival featured various world-famous Michelin-starred chefs, panels, workshops, and sessions that were live-streamed on multiple social media platforms.

Gaziantep, known as Turkey’s Gastronomy capital, was added to UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network in 2015. The city’s cuisine, reflecting its rich culture and history, includes traditional ingredients as well as meat, vegetables, and baked products from various regions of Turkey. The city’s vibrant cuisine takes center stage annually during the 3-day GastroAntep festival.

The festival kicked off with the harvesting of pistachios, known as the “green gold of the region,” and the making of “sire,” a unique dessert in Gaziantep. Notable figures including Deputy Tourism Minister Nadir Alpaslan and Mayor Fatma Şahin participated in the pistachio harvest.
