Kunos Simulazioni has recently unveiled Assetto Corsa Evo as their upcoming driving and racing game project, returning to a more general format reminiscent of the original Assetto Corsa. The game is now available for wishlisting on Steam with a targeted release date set for 2024.

Assetto Corsa Evo aims to redefine the concept of realism and the features of one of the most popular cross-platform driving simulations ever developed. It will feature cars from various classes, including road cars, classics, hypercars, prototypes, and racing cars, in contrast to AC Competizione which focused solely on GT3 cars.

All of these elements are meticulously recreated with modeling that considers mechanical, electronic, and aerodynamic performance. Additionally, circuits are meticulously replicated using Laserscan technology. This data feeds into a new algorithm that simulates asphalt behavior under dynamic weather conditions, enhancing the realism of changing weather effects.

Initial screenshots reveal the presence of:

  • Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm
  • Alpine A110
  • Alpine A290_β
  • Hyundai N Vision 74
  • Hyundai i20 N
  • Hyundai i30 N
  • Lamborghini Huracán STO
  • Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II – specifically the 452nd of 500 road legal cars produced
  • Porsche 911 (930)
  • Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992)

Among the race circuits spotted are Imola, Nurburgring Nordschleife, and Brands Hatch. Here’s a glimpse of the iconic Variante Alta chicane under wet conditions:

Kunos Simulazioni is departing from Unreal Engine for Assetto Corsa Evo, opting for a new proprietary graphics engine tailored specifically for driving simulations. The game promises photorealistic details and support for both VR and triple screen racing setups.

The launch strategy for Assetto Corsa Evo is currently unclear. Previous games in the series debuted on Steam Early Access before transitioning to a full PC launch and eventually making their way to consoles. It is anticipated that AC Evo will follow a similar trajectory, though further clarification is sought.

PC system requirements on Steam appear to be moderate for 2024, with recommended GPUs from Competizioni serving as the new minimum specifications. A GeForce GTX 1070 or Radeon RX 580 will be the minimum GPU required, while a GeForce RTX 2070 or Radeon RX 5600 is recommended. It is emphasized that the game will necessitate 100GB of SSD storage.

Reflecting on Assetto Corsa Competizioni, it was noted in a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S review that while the original console release had some shortcomings, the game’s launch on the latest consoles brought it in line with the PC version, making it one of the top sim racers available.
