Suburban voters stand by Hochul’s congestion pricing pause: poll
The latest poll indicates that a majority of voters in New York City’s suburbs support Governor Kathy Hochul’s decision to indefinitely pause the congestion pricing toll. According to the statewide Siena College survey conducted last week, Hochul’s approval rating has reached its lowest point in a year, with only 38% of respondents approving of her performance. Meanwhile, 49% of respondents disapproved, tying for the second lowest rating ever recorded back in April.
Among the statewide respondents, 45% expressed their support for Hochul’s decision to halt the $15 daily toll on drivers entering Manhattan below 60th Street.
Suburban voters, including those from Long Island, Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland Counties, continue to show strong opposition to the toll, with 56% supporting Hochul’s decision to pause congestion pricing.
The poll was conducted shortly after lawmakers wrapped up their annual session in Albany, where they rejected Hochul’s last-minute proposal to raise taxes to compensate for the revenue shortfall caused by the paused congestion pricing scheme.

The decision has sparked strong opposition from progressive politicians, with City Comptroller Brad Lander leading a group looking to sue Hochul
