US President Joe Biden Salutes Italian Prime Minister at G7 Summit
US President Joe Biden made an awkward salute to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni upon his arrival at the G7 summit in Italy on Thursday. Biden, 81, was the last of the world leaders to arrive at the venue in southern Puglia and greeted Meloni on stage.
After a brief conversation, Meloni directed Biden’s attention to a frame of the G7 logo that each leader was expected to sign with a marker. As Biden prepared to leave the stage, he raised his right arm in a salute towards Meloni.
The G7 summit is an informal forum where leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States gather annually to discuss economic policy and security issues.
Following their initial greetings, Biden and Meloni were joined by other leaders on the platform, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
During the three-day summit, discussions are expected to cover global conflicts, the impact of artificial intelligence, African issues, and new assistance for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
