OpenAI has introduced a new subscription plan called ChatGPT GO in India, priced at ₹399 per month ($4.60), which is more affordable than their Plus Plan at ₹1,999 (about $23) per month.

The company has enabled local currency pricing for all plans and now allows users to pay through UPI (Unified Payment Interface), India’s payment framework.

Nick Turley, VP at OpenAI and head of ChatGPT, mentioned that the ChatGPT Go plan offers increased message, image generation, and file upload limits by 10 times compared to the free tier. It also promises better memory retention for more personalized responses.

Turley mentioned that making ChatGPT more affordable was a user demand, and they are starting with India before expanding to other countries based on feedback.

The Go plan offers a more budget-friendly alternative for users primarily interested in chat, image generation, and file processing.

Tibor Blaho, a software engineer known for accurate AI product leaks, had hinted at this plan earlier.

Although the plan is currently limited to India, OpenAI plans to expand it to more regions in the future.

OpenAI noted an increase in ChatGPT users globally, with India being the second-largest market. The new plan aims to capitalize on this growth.

India has been a top country for ChatGPT app downloads, but revenue from the country has been relatively low. The Go plan is expected to drive more subscriptions due to its competitive pricing.

Other AI companies have also introduced initiatives to attract users in India, such as free subscriptions and plans tailored for the market.

OpenAI’s localized and affordable pricing strategy is likely to result in a higher subscription conversion rate for ChatGPT in India.
