Android 16 Material 3 Expressive Design Overhaul Leaked

Google has revealed details about its new Material 3 Expressive design language.

The tech giant will showcase the new Material 3 Expressive UI at the upcoming Google I/O 2025 event alongside Android 16.

Although Google has given some insights into its new design language, it accidentally posted a blog post revealing more than intended.

Google’s big Material 3 Expressive leak

Google accidentally published a blog post outlining its Material 3 Expressive UI before quickly removing it.

The post highlighted the extensive research that went into developing Material 3 Expressive, starting from a simple question by an intern in 2022.

Google conducted 46 research studies with over 18,000 participants to create Material 3 Expressive, focusing on eye tracking, experiments, and focus groups.

What to expect from Material 3 Expressive

Google describes the Material 3 Expressive system as “beautiful and highly usable,” focusing on making key actions prominent and grouping similar elements together.

The design exceeds current standards for tap target size, color contrast, and other important aspects to enhance usability for all users.

One key feature is a new floating toolbar at the bottom of Google apps, designed to highlight the main UI element.

For example, the Gmail app now has a larger and more prominent Send button placed above the keyboard.

Google’s new UI design language was developed by considering user feedback and emotions, resulting in a promising and intriguing outcome.
