Nintendo isn't ruling out a Switch 2 price rise depending on those pesky tariffs, as it predicts the new hardware will outdo the uber-popular OG Switch's launch sales

Nintendo has revealed its projected sales numbers for the launch of the Switch 2, with analysts suggesting that the company may have been conservative in its estimates. Despite this, Nintendo anticipates impressive sales figures for its latest hardware. The company’s president has also hinted at a potential price increase for the console, depending on the US tariff situation.

The sales forecast is part of Nintendo’s outlook for the upcoming fiscal year, ending in March 2026. The company is aiming for 15 million units sold during the launch window for the Switch 2.

Nintendo has set a target of 45 million games sold along with the 15 million units for the first year of the Switch 2. This would surpass the original Switch, which sold 14.87 million units in its debut year.

Despite the seemingly impressive numbers, many analysts believe that Nintendo’s estimates are cautious due to the uncertainty surrounding US tariffs. Analyst Daniel Ahmad tweeted, “Conservative forecast from Nintendo here. Likely factoring in unpredictability around tariffs, pricing and production despite the positive pre-order momentum.”

“For reference, our forecast was 14.5 million units by the end of December 2025, and that was already considered conservative by most of the industry. I do think Nintendo will raise its forecast if the tariff situation is reversed. However, the main issue right now is the knock-on effects that are already in motion, creating a challenging environment for a console launch.”

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has not ruled out the possibility of a price increase for the Switch 2 due to tariffs. He mentioned in a report from Yahoo News translated by Genki, “At this time, the top priority is to quickly popularize the Switch 2 hardware. If the assumptions regarding tariffs change significantly, we would like to consider what price adjustments we should make and implement them after considering various factors.”

With fans already calling for a price drop, any tariff-related price changes could cause a stir. How do you feel about getting your hands on a Switch 2 right now? Share your thoughts below.
