Mumbai Airport to temporarily close runways for pre-monsoon maintenance, ET TravelWorld

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has announced its annual pre-monsoon runway maintenance, scheduled for 8 May 2025, between 1100 hrs and 1700 hrs. During this period, both the primary runway (09/27) and secondary runway (14/32) will be temporarily non-operational as part of essential maintenance activities.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months in advance, providing airlines and stakeholders with sufficient time to adjust flight schedules. This proactive measure ensures that flight operations remain unaffected, allowing for a smooth travel experience for passengers.

The maintenance will focus on inspecting runway surfaces for wear, addressing potential waterlogging risks, and ensuring safe landings and take-offs during the monsoon season. Spanning an area of 1,033 acres, CSMIA’s airside infrastructure will be closely monitored, leveraging advanced technology to maintain operational standards.

By coordinating with airlines and aviation authorities, CSMIA aims to complete the maintenance within the scheduled six-hour window, ensuring minimal disruption. This initiative underscores CSMIA’s commitment to safety, operational excellence, and efficient passenger experience.

A spokesperson for CSMIA said, “Our annual pre-monsoon runway maintenance is an integral part of our preparedness strategy. With proactive planning and coordination, we ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations for our passengers.”

Looking ahead, CSMIA will continue to prioritise infrastructure upkeep and operational safety, maintaining the highest standards of service excellence.
