Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reached out to his Pakistani counterpart on Sunday (May 4, 2025) and extended Russia’s assistance in easing tensions between Pakistan and India regarding Kashmir, as reported by the Foreign Ministry.

The ministry stated, “Significant attention was given to the escalating tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad,” regarding Mr. Lavrov’s discussion with Ishaq Dar, who also holds the position of Pakistan’s deputy prime minister.
“It was emphasized that Russia stands prepared to facilitate a political resolution to the situation arising from the terrorist attack on April 22 in the Pahalgam region of the Kashmir Valley, provided there is a mutual willingness from Islamabad and New Delhi,” the Russian Foreign Ministry conveyed in a statement shared on Telegram.
Following his conversation with Mr. Dar, Mr. Lavrov engaged in talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, urging for a reconciliation of disputes between the neighboring nations.

At least 26 individuals were tragically killed in an attack by suspected militants at a mountain tourist spot in the Pahalgam area of the Kashmir Valley last week.
Kashmir, a region claimed by both nations, has been a point of contention resulting in conflicts, insurgency, and diplomatic stalemates.
India has long been a recipient of weapons from Russia, solidifying a strong bond between New Delhi and Moscow since the era of the Soviet Union.
