Rockstar has officially announced the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI, and fans will have to wait until May 26, 2026, for the highly anticipated game to hit the shelves.

The statement on the Rockstar website reads:

“Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled to release on May 26, 2026. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your continued support and patience as we strive to deliver a game that exceeds your expectations. We are grateful for the excitement surrounding the new Grand Theft Auto and look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”

Sincerely,
Rockstar Games

This news has both positive and negative implications for the gaming industry. Many companies were preparing for a late 2025 release window, given previous statements from Take Two about GTA 6’s expected launch. Now, developers might feel pressured to aim for a 2025 release or capitalize on the gap between late February and early April 2026 for a successful launch.

Grand Theft Auto VI will transport players back to Vice City, introducing Lucia as the series’ first female protagonist. The trailer hints at a modern-day setting in the fictional state of Leonida, showcasing a mix of social media, classic cars, and American culture. From beaches to swamps and skyscrapers, the game promises a diverse and exciting gameplay experience.
